drama in the dance

There were 3 or 4 dancers glued to a yahoo forum yesterday. Plus me. I was SO sucked into the drama.
So, one little chicky dancer who has no idea what it means to be a professional dancer (it's a lot more than knowing how to dance and having a costume) shows up at a local restaurant and offers to dance for $50. Sure the restaurant likes that! They pay their regualr dancers $85. Well, I can only guess they would rather pay $85 and have the regular dancers than invite her back, because she threw a huge fit and accused the other dancers of undercutting HER, among other things.

It is hard for women to trust other women. Isn't that sad? She believes the MUSICIANS of all people when they told her that the existing dancers were dancing for cheap. Never, ever, ever believe the musicians. They will lie more often than the restaurant owners do. And those restaurant owners love you! Oh, you dance just like their grandmother, you look just like their little sister, you remind them of their cousin (and everyone is their "cousin"). But if they find someone cheaper than you who doesn't scare off the customers, you are cut.

The crux of the matter is communication and figuring out who to trust. Trust your fellow dancers! Yes, there are some bad eggs out there, but it doesn't take too long to figure out who they are. Dancers WANT you to get paid well, because that helps ensure that they will get paid well, too.
