Ok, so if this is right, I was wrong. The kids that I said were Max's 5th cousins, are really his third cousins as they share great-great-grandmothers. Now, the one I said was Max's 4th cousin, is really Max's 2nd cousin, once removed as Larry and Nikki are 2nd cousins (they share the same great grandmother).

Not nearly as far out sounding. But it is nice to know, because I was pretty sure I was wrong.
